Mize, DNP, CCRN, CPNP, PC, AC, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Pediatric Critical Care at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC, this educational event includes updates on respiratory and neurologic deterioration, pain management and hot topics in pediatric infectious disease, presented in a dynamic, interactive format. You can earn CE and Pharmacology credit, and interact with Dr. Mize and other participants across the nation, all from the comfort and convenience of your work or home setting.

Moderator:  Marisa G. Mize, DNP, CCRN, CPNP, PC, AC

Dr. Marisa Mize has dedicated her career to the bedside care of the critically ill child. During her 20 years of practicing as a critical care PNP, she has designed and implemented two pediatric critical care nurse practitioner programs and one emergency room nurse practitioner program. She currently works as a PNP in both pediatric intensive care and pediatric emergency units. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Mize is continually involved with the education of the pediatric critical care practitioners and nurses. She is currently adjunct professor of nursing at Catholic University of America, teaching courses on both graduate and undergraduate levels. Dr. Mize has lectured both nationally and internationally on pediatric critical care issues, with a focus on caring for the child with cardiac issues. She has been involved in a program that has gone to Ecuador for over 20 years and helped create a pediatric cardiac program, where her main contribution has been the training of the nurses and physicians.


  • Identify signs and symptoms of respiratory deterioration in a child, and the appropriate use of the RRT in these emergent situations.
  • State the importance of early recognition of neurologic deterioration.
  • Investigate issues related to opioid use for pain management in hospitalized children.
  • Discuss recent trends in pediatric infectious diseases, and the assessment and treatment of selected infections.
