Highlights & Benefits

Contemporary Forums is pleased and excited to invite you to our 28th annual Pediatric Nursing: Care of the Hospitalized Child conference, addressing best practices in the care of this unique patient population! Progress, challenges and research towards solutions to unanswered questions continue to refine the care we provide for acutely ill, chronically ill and/or medically complex children. Join us in Seattle for a conference jam-packed with education and networking, all while enjoying some time away from your clinical setting to recharge your enthusiasm for the special work you do!

Highlights of the 2018 Conference include:

  •  A full day dynamic preconference on Caring for the Deteriorating Child, focusing on recognition and initial management. This Preconference brings together experts to improve your assessment skills, identify appropriate interventions and problem-solve interesting cases.
  • Main Conference General Sessions on a variety of “hot topics” currently facing the inpatient pediatric nurse, including emerging infections, new sepsis guidelines, new developments in pain management and case studies on ethical boundaries in treating acutely and chronically ill children.
  • A choice of 15 Concurrent Sessions, allowing you the opportunity to choose the five presentations that best meet your educational needs and interests.
  • Hands-On Learning! Two chances to attend a hands-on workshop on Concurrent Session day, during which you’ll take part in activities at four stations. Gain experience with equipment and procedures that continue to cause stress at work—in a non-stressful environment!
  • Opportunities to question and share experiences with experts in the field through faculty Q&A sessions, case studies and interactive workshops.
  • A chance to engage your nursing colleagues by networking and socializing throughout your conference stay, including optional Breakfast Sessions and a networking t-shirt exchange!

CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES

This conference will enable you to:

  • Identify the early warning signs of clinical deterioration in the hospitalized child.
  • Fine-tune your assessment skills, nursing care and understanding of treatment strategies for acutely and chronically ill children.
  • Discuss emerging infections and identify steps that staff and facilities must take in order to be prepared to safely treat these patients.
  • Discuss innovative advances in oncology therapies.
  • Examine and assess ethical dilemmas related to a variety of challenges in pediatric nursing, including appropriate interactions with parents and managing the potential risks of social media.

Host City: Seattle

Aptly named the "Emerald City," Seattle is far more than just sensational scenery. This unique city offers a combination of scenic beauty, cultural diversity, outdoor recreation and urban attractions.

Pike Place Market, with its splendid array of fresh seafood, produce, restaurants, crafts and international foods, will amaze you. Enjoy walking along the waterfront, home of the Seattle Aquarium and over a mile of restaurants, shops and excursion boats. You won't want to miss the spectacular site of Mt. Rainier, best viewed from a ferry or excursion boat trip on Puget Sound. Historic Pioneer Square, Seattle's oldest neighborhood and home to many art galleries, bookstores, pubs and cafes, is a must during your visit. You’ll also want to venture out to the major department and specialty stores Seattle has to offer, including the original Nordstrom.

Take the Monorail to Seattle Center, home of the dramatic Space Needle and the Experience Music Project. Ride the elevator to the top of the Space Needle for a 360-degree panoramic view of Seattle, Puget Sound and the surrounding mountain ranges. Whether your preference is blues, jazz, country or rock’n’roll, you’ll enjoy exploring musical diversity at the Experience Music Project, a unique museum of music memorabilia and interactive musical events. There is even a special room dedicated to Jimi Hendrix where you’ll see his guitars as well as film clips and pictures from his life and concerts.

When it comes to restaurants and nightspots, you can't beat Seattle for variety and quality. Fresh seafood abounds along with fine American and ethnic cuisine. After dinner, head to one of the many coffee houses for which Seattle is famous, including the original Starbucks.

The elegant Grand Hyatt Seattle is ideally located in the heart of Seattle, with breath-taking views of downtown, the Cascade and Olympic Mountains, Lake Union and Elliott Bay surrounding the hotel on every side. With easy access to Seattle’s many attractions, the hotel is within walking of Pike Place Market, the Seattle Art Museum and premier shopping. Unwind at the end of the day in the sauna, steam room or whirlpool in the fully-equipped health club, or make an appointment in the spa for a massage. Meet with your colleagues for networking and relaxing at Ruth’s Chris Steak House, the hotel restaurant offering New Orleans’ hospitality and famous sizzling steaks.

Seattle and the Pacific Northwest have something for everyone. You may even extend your trip to explore nearby Vancouver and Victoria. With these exquisite surroundings, your participation in this national conference will bring you discoveries without end.
