Conference Program

Preconference: Clinical Controversies in the Management of Perinatal/Neonatal Infections

A number of pathogens can affect a pregnant woman and cause significant harm to both her and the fetus/neonate. Growing knowledge in the field of infectious disease in pregnancy leads to constantly changing recommendations and clinical controversies about best practices for the exposed and/or infected pregnant woman and neonate. This course will address current screening, prevention and antenatal treatment of intrauterine infection, as well as postnatal approach to the neonate. It will also cover the recent global crisis caused by Zika virus in pregnancy, including antenatal prevention and screening, and injury to the neonate. Potential legal liability, and ways to avoid it, will also be discussed.

OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the Preconference, the participant will be able to:

  • Identify the most common etiologies of intrauterine infections currently facing pregnant women.
  • Discuss current guidelines and treatment options for common infections in pregnancy.
  • Strategize ways to limit liability for treatment of perinatal infections through providing appropriate patient care to the pregnant woman and neonate.

Location

Host City: JACKSON HOLE

Summer in Jackson Hole – breathtaking in beauty, back-country solitude and western ambience – offers an experience unmatched anywhere else. Set in the shadow of the towering Grand Teton Mountains, Jackson Hole is a unique blend of Old West charm and cosmopolitan atmosphere. Nowhere else on earth will you find such a magnificent display of nature mixed with unlimited activities. Within its confines lie Grand Teton National Park, the National Elk Refuge and the friendly town of Jackson -- the gateway to Yellowstone National Park.

The Grand Tetons may be the world's greatest range of mountains to behold – majestic by day, mysterious by night; purple-pink at dawn, slate-blue at dusk but always trimmed by snow.

The conference schedule has been arranged to allow time to enjoy the area. The Snake River, which winds its way along the base of the Tetons, provides a perfect playground for daytime excursions. You may choose a scenic float trip down the Snake or thrill to a whitewater adventure through one of its canyons.  Golf, horseback riding, mountain biking, jeep tours, and fly fishing are just a few of the other activities you can enjoy.

If you still have the energy after an active day, kick up your heels western style to live entertainment at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar or attend the action-packed Jackson Hole rodeo. Over 40 restaurants in Jackson Hole offer menus to suit all tastes from delicious prime rib in the lively atmosphere of the Mangy Moose to wild game at the Gun Barrel Steak and Game House. Experience the authenticity of a Paris bistro at Rendezvous Bistro, a locals’ favorite, or the creative cuisine and upscale atmosphere of the Blue Lion or Snake River Grill. And for an unequaled view and exquisite dining experience, don’t miss The Granary.

The arts also flourish in Jackson Hole. Enjoy the nightly concerts of the Grand Teton Music Festival where everything from Beethoven to Bartok is performed by some of the nation's finest musicians. There are also numerous art galleries displaying the works of a number of well-known artists who make their homes here. And you won’t want to miss the National Museum of Wildlife Art, situated on a dramatic cliff overlooking the National Elk Refuge. Capturing the area’s natural beauty in its stunning architecture, the museum’s collection includes over 5,000 art pieces ranging from early American tribes through contemporary masters.

You may also want to extend your stay to tour Yellowstone – our country's first national park and largest outside of Alaska. Visiting Yellowstone is a unique opportunity to see a wide variety of wildlife – including moose, elk, buffalo, deer, coyote, eagles and maybe even a bear – and visit the awesome thermal areas where the two contrasting elements of fire and water have produced a land of natural wonders.

Our conference site, the Snow King Resort, located at the base of Snow King Mountain, has a variety of activities and entertainment. Swim in the heated pool, relax in the Jacuzzi or take the chairlift to the top of Snow King Mountain to enjoy the view of the valley and the Tetons.  And, there’s plenty of action for kids, too. Speed down the Alpine Slide, challenge someone to a game of minigolf, or ride horseback up Snow King Mountain.

The “New and Improved” Snow King Resort

The Snow King has undergone a $16 million renovation which includes:

  • Beautifully remodeled guest rooms and bathrooms.
  • New restaurant and bar area with 180° vistas of the mountain landscape and an outdoor deck.
  • Completely renovated meeting space.
  • Updated pool, spa and work-out facilities.
  • 3 new shuttles for complimentary airport transportation.
  • Significantly enhanced WiFi capability.

Past guests at the Snow King will be amazed at the transformation and new guests will experience a first class resort in a world class destination.

With such a wide array of beautiful scenery and exciting activities, you won't want to miss this opportunity to visit the spectacular area of the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone during this conference. Bring your family and friends … it’ll be a trip like no other!
