Highlights & Benefits

Our Principal Instructors, Alan P. Agins, PhD and Jody F. Agins, MSN, RNP, FNP/GNP-BC, have designed a comprehensive course which addresses the pharmacology and therapeutic uses of current medications used for primary care, as well as common clinical issues and concerns related to prescribing.  For more than two decades, “Pharmacology for Advanced Practice Clinicians,” continues to be the “go-to” outpatient pharmacology course, whether you are applying for or renewing prescriptive authority or renewing your ANCC certification.

Highlights and benefits of this course include:

  • 7 information-packed days with up to 52.5 hours of pharmacology content, taught by a nationally-renowned “teaching” pharmacologist together with experienced clinical faculty.
  • The use of both didactic and case-based approaches allows you to meet the ANCC’s new rules for re-certification as well as the requirements for prescriptive authority* in many states. Daily registration is also available.
  • A Pediatric Pharmacology Preconference, focusing on medications and prescribing regimens specific to caring for children in the outpatient setting. The Pharmacology Course’s primary focus is adults in the outpatient setting, so plan to attend this Preconference if you need additional knowledge about prescribing for children.
  • California BRN Schedule II Controlled Substances educational requirements are included in the San Francisco and Las Vegas courses only.

* States’ requirements for prescriptive authority vary. Please contact your State Board of Nursing regarding educational requirements.

You won’t want to miss Golden Gate Park and its gems, the de Young Museum, a state-of-the-art facility that integrates art, architecture and the natural landscape.  Spend some time in Chinatown where fish markets, tea and herb shops, and exotic produce stalls spill onto the street, or North Beach, the Italian quarter, where you can join locals at an outdoor café for espresso and pastry or wander in and out of the tempting delis, bakeries and pasta houses.  Your trip to San Francisco would not be complete without a shopping spree and this city offers many opportunities for that!  From the delightful boutiques of Union and Chestnut Streets to the designer shops on Union Square, you will not be disappointed.

Take in a San Francisco Giants game at AT&T Park, home of the 2012 World Series Champions! With its breathtaking views and classic design, AT&T Park is just a short distance from our conference hotel and provides a unique San Francisco experience.

San Francisco has a love affair with food and you will find a wide range of cuisines, pricing, and restaurant styles.  After dinner, head to trendy SoMa, the “see and be seen” club scene, or head back to North Beach and take in Beach Blanket Babylon, the quirky, entertaining and riotously funny musical revue.

Conference headquarters will be the dramatic Hyatt Regency San Francisco, with its impressive 20-story atrium lobby and a view from every room.  The Hyatt is surrounded by a multitude of shops and restaurants, including the Ferry Building, bustling with a Farmer’s Market, gourmet shops and restaurants.  The California Street cable car line and Embarcadero BART station are steps from the lobby of the hotel, giving you easy access to all the unique sites and sounds of San Francisco.

Plan to extend your stay and drive north for wine-tasting in the world famous Napa and Sonoma Valley vineyards, or south down the rugged California coast to Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur for spectacular ocean views. For more information about San Francisco and the surrounding areas, visit

Dr. Agins started the conference with the best explanation of Pharmacodynamics and Pharmacokinetics I have ever heard, even better than I received in my Master's Program! Starting with this information laid the ground work for a better understanding of everything that followed. Shirley R. Courey, NP-C Dimondale, MI
