Conference Program

Preconferences • 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Sheryl A. Kingsberg, PhD
Michael L. Krychman, MD, FACOG

Think about it … how does sexuality change as women and couples age? And how comfortable are you discussing this sensitive issue with your patients? Female sexual problems, such as decreased libido, increased physical discomfort, difficulty reaching orgasm, and feeling sexual in the face of chronic illness—all are common complaints heard in clinical practice. What are state-of-the-art diagnostic and management strategies available for treating women with sexual concerns? What communication strategies are best when working with women and couples with sexual problems? What impact does chronic illness and pain have on the older woman's sexual health?

This Preconference will provide you with expert consensus on current female sexual medicine evaluation and therapeutics, with a special focus on chronic conditions which can impact sexual well-being. In addition, a unique feature of this session is hands- on skills development for improving communication through video vignettes, mock
interviews and case studies.

This Preconference will enable you to:

  • Identify sexual disorders commonly seen in primary care, including the psychological assessment of women  with sexual dysfunction.
  • Enhance communication skills around sexual issues through video vignettes and interviews.
  • Examine emerging pharmaceuticals for sexual disorders.
  • Discuss the impact of chronic illness and pain on sexual well-being.
  • Through case study discussion, highlight therapeutic approaches for working with women with sexual concerns.
  • Distinguish when to treat the woman with sexual dysfunction in the office and when to refer her to a psychologist, physical therapist or sexual medicine specialist.

Potential future developments in testing and treatment of selected cancers will also be addressed. The dynamic panel of
