PRECONFERENCE B

Behavioral Management During Acute and Post-Acute Brain Injury Rehabilitation

Wednesday, October 3

Behavioral disturbances following a TBI create a major barrier to maximizing rehabilitation potential across the continuum of care. These disturbances present significant challenges for clinical intervention and attainment of independent function for patients. Participate in this workshop to learn successful approaches for management of these behaviors. This workshop will discuss a variety of behavioral disturbances, the processes to develop appropriate management strategies, and steps for implementation of a comprehensive and consistent behavioral management program through each stage of the rehabilitation continuum of care. Utilize this advanced knowledge to better manage your patients and provide caregivers ways to successfully transition their family member through the rehabilitation process to home and the community.

Learning Objectives
Participants will:

  • Identify individuals at risk for behavioral problems and key components of a comprehensive behavioral assessment.
  • List specific strategies and interventions which address common behavioral problems in rehabilitation.
  • Identify methods for ongoing education, assessment, and modification of behavioral interventions within a trans-disciplinary team across the rehabilitation continuum of care.
  • Explore caregiver education methodologies so they can adjust behavioral interventions to be effective for the community discharge transition.
